Maybe less of a break

[UPDATE: I will not be starting the new time slot this Friday as noted below. My new time starts next Friday, and will assuredly be that much better because I'll be far more done with my project and far more relaxed about all things school. See y'alls then!]

I mentioned before that I needed to take off some blogging time because of my final project and the chaotic last couple weeks of school, but recent events have changed things a little bit.

I have, after three quarters of DJing, been moved to a later time slot at KWVA! I'm still spinning Friday mornings, but I'll be in the booth from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. This changes my situation because at 7 a.m. I'll be done with music and running the news. The news comes to us via an online download, and I simply mash play on Quicktime and let it do its thing.

That means I have an hour after my show to sit down and post files and playlists. I'm okay with an hour less of music because it means I can really focus on the creme de la creme and crank out one kick ass hour of drive-time music. It's also less stressful because I don't have as much work to do, and I get to sleep in two hours on Friday.

I had thought about saying this was good and bad news, but I don't really see the bad here at all. An hour less of music to DJ, as much as I love to DJ, is a welcome change during my last weeks of school. It means I get to crank out good music, work a little bit less and still have time to post it all here!

I'm already working on my playlist for this Friday. I'm feeling pretty good with my new situation, so I hope it will be kickin' show.

Log on 6 a.m. (West Coast time) this Friday at KWVA's website to listen live, or wait just a little bit and I'll post the full show plus the playlist before 8 a.m.

I'm still working on my media blog for my class, and will likely continue this after my program ends. Stop on by and read Because NPR Always Ignores My Submissions.

Needing a break...

Hi all,

I've been rather sporadic about my posting lately, and I thought it was a good time to just pack it in for two weeks. I'm in the middle of my final project for my masters degree, and it is, or should be, taking up all of my time. Keeping up with posting my shows has not been working, and I found myself much less stressed out this morning when I did not record the show, and did not worry about distributing it online.

So for the next two weeks I'll be heavy into research and writing. The results are not as entertaining as you might hope, but if anyone is interested in the population growth patters of two small towns in Oregon, I'm your man.

After the next two weeks I'll have quite a bit of free time, and I've got some nice plans worked out for this blog. Treats will come at a much better rate at that time. The next time you'll see me, I imagine, will be a posting for my last KWVA show. I'm sad to leave, but somehow I think a 3 hour commute from Astoria, on top of the show being at 4 a.m. just doesn't seem like it's going to work. But again, with the loss of one thing I've got big plans for another. Just stay tuned for my upcoming surprise starting this summer!

Also, I do have another blog, and I'm required to keep updating it for a class I'm in, so I will be posting on Because NPR Always Ignores My Submissions during the next two weeks. I will be writing mainly on media and journalism. It's a bit of a soapbox site, but that's the way it goes.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the other side of this crazy school tunnel! If you hear about a young man finally snapping and rampaging the city of Eugene in the next couple weeks, let's hope it's not me!

Your blogger,
Aaron

Because NPR Always Ignores My Submissions

A quick update on things, since I haven't even had time for this week's playlist.

The links in the previous post have expired, and when I find a few moments to update them, I will. Just hang tight. I'm in the last half of my last quarter here at the University of Oregon and the pressure is on.

As a class assignment I started another blog. It's supposed to examine media issues but not in newsy style, more like commentary. It's called Because NPR Always Ignores My Submissions. It's a badly cast joke about the program This I Believe. I had considered trying to quote Edward R. Murrow for my title, going with something like Murrow's Boys or something, when my head went, "Oh yeah! This I Believe" and then realized that NPR had already taken the title. I suppose "Murrow's Boy" might also work. Hmm..... Okay, maybe I'll change it... anyway... Hop on by and read it if you're interested. It will be more in the format of how this blog originally began before it became the music oriented blog that it is today.

Congratulations to Amy, a friend of Megan's from college, as she finishes up her work at Duke's law school! Soon I'll be joining the ranks of graduates, and Megan not long after that. Good luck to Amy on her next adventure! My sympathies, as I know the end of school is highly stressful and full of tying up various loose ends.
